The allied health division has resurrected HSE 101, a 1-credit hour course, for students who are interested in our health career programs but are undecided and would like a little information about our various programs.
In the Schedule of Classes, it is listed under Health Sciences Education:
HSE 101 J001 8771 on TR 11:00-11:50AM taught on Cooper campus.
Since this is a 1 cr class that meets twice / week, it will be finished at midterm, March 8, 2015.
The course will highlight the programs in the Allied Health Division and Nursing Division, as well as some of our programs that are under Medical Information Technology. Not everyone who works in health care works with patients. If time allows, associate degree programs at other area colleges/universities will also be presented.
An emphasis will be on the 2-year technical degree that dovetails with 4-year degrees such as the Bachelor in Health Science degree.
This course is also appropriate for students who are in transitional courses: RDG 20, RDG 30, and ENC 90.

BCTC Blue +
In our last class some of you were asking about the BCTC Blue + program that allows you to take "some" classes at the University of Kentucky at BCTC prices. There seemed to be a bit of confusion about exactly what this program allows you to do, so I researched it and can explain it now. Lets discuss in class if you are interested:

Extra Credit Opportunity - Kill the Messenger
The film Kill the Messenger is opening at the Kemtucky Theater downtown and it is a good example of the hidden histories we were discussing at the beginning of the semester. If you go see it and write a 300+ word response about the film (send it to my email) I will give you extra credit.

BCTC KY Legislative Student Internship Program
[If you are interested, let me know and I will email you the forms]
Open to all BCTC students! No specific major required.
Are you interested in gaining experience and college credit while working with a Kentucky Legislator during the 2015 Regular Legislative session?
If so, consider applying for the BCTC KY Legislative Student Internship Program. All application material must be completed and submitted by October 15 – Deadline extended. Internship expectations and an application are attached. Candidates will be asked to interview with members of the Bluegrass Outreach and Advocacy Team.
Every attempt will be made to pair students with legislators in their home district or a specific Legislator if requested.
Selected students will earn college credits during Spring 2015 and will be responsible for all costs associated with traveling to and from Frankfort and the assigned legislator’s district office. If interested, please consider this time and travel commitment when scheduling Spring coursework. While not mandatory, past interns have found it helpful to take classes two days a week (suggested Monday/Wednesday) leaving the other two days open for the internship.
If this sounds like something you’d like to do, complete and submit the application and all required application materials by October 15 – Deadline extended. We look forward to hearing from you!
